What Is A Decanter?

If you were to look at Wikipedia.com's definition of decanter you would find the definition:

“A decanter is a vessel used to hold the resulting decantation of a liquid, which contains sediment (such as wine). Liquid from another vessel is poured into the decanter in order to separate a small volume of liquid, containing the sediment, from a larger volume of "clear" liquid, which is free of such. In the process, the sediment is left in the original vessel, and the clear liquid is transferred to the decanter.”

Along with separating sediment from the liquid a decanter also allows the wine to bring oxygen in. This process opens up the wine and lets the tannins open up. The Versovino wine decanter is a good example of a decanter that lets the wine breath. This will ultimately enhance the flavor and smell of the wine to make it a more pleasurable experience.

What Is A Decanter?

Over the years decanters have taken on many shapes and sizes, mostly to make them an attractive vessel when pouring the wine like the Rojaus Gemini wine decanter or the RoJaus Fleur De Lis wine decanter. In most cases decanters are made of glass so as to be able to see through the decanter to view the wine.

No matter the shape or size of the wine decanter it must serve it’s main purpose to separate sediment and to let the wine breath.
